The International Press Institute (IPI) is delighted to announce that Gabriela Manuli has been appointed as IPI’s Director of Special Projects.
In this role, Manuli will lead on developing key initiatives to strengthen IPI’s global network. This will include IPI’s upcoming 75th anniversary campaign as a key moment to celebrate press freedom and collectively strategize to safeguard its future.
Prior to joining IPI, Manuli was the deputy director of the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), an association of 251 nonprofit organizations in 95 countries dedicated to investigative reporting. In 2019 she co-founded the GIJN Women Group, a network created to discuss issues related to women and non-binary investigative journalists.
Originally from Argentina and currently based in Budapest, Hungary, Manuli has been a journalist for more than 20 years (working for radio, TV, magazines, and newspapers) and has extensive professional international experience in Latin America, Europe, and the United States. Over the years she’s been a speaker at different international journalism conferences and sits on several international journalism juries.
Manuli earned an MA in public policy with distinctions (media, information, and communications policy specialization) at the Central European University in Budapest, and graduated with first-class honors in Social Communication Science at the University of Buenos Aires. She also audited courses and seminars at Harvard and MIT. In 2008 she was a World Press Institute Fellow in the United States.
“We are thrilled to have Gabriela join IPI’s international team as we continue to expand our work and impact in support of press freedom and independent journalism across the globe”, IPI Interim Executive Director Scott Griffen said. “The fight to defend free media is at a pivotal juncture. Gabriela’s deep knowledge and experience in our field will strengthen IPI’s ability to support the members of our global journalism network as they do their essential work: delivering the public-interest news we need.”
IPI is a global network of editors, publishers, and leading journalists dedicated to supporting press freedom and independent journalism. Founded in 1950, IPI will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025.
