Radio journalist missing in east Nepal

IPI Nepal calls for prompt investigation

Madan Paudel, a journalist with Radio Tamor in the eastern district of Taplejung, Nepal has been missing for over a week.

Local newspapers said that the whereabouts of the journalist is unknown and reportedly criticised security agencies for not carrying out thorough investigations.

Paudel reportedly went missing on Sep. 16 after attending an event called “Taplejung Dance Star 2012” in Fulbari village. It has yet to be confirmed whether Paudel’s disappearance is connected with his journalistic work.

The IPI Nepal National Committee urged the government to carry out fair and prompt investigations and reveal the whereabouts of the journalist. IPI Nepal Chairperson Padma Singh Karki said: “The state should initiate an immediate search to reveal the condition of the missing journalist.”
