Shah Alam Sagar, 25, a reporter for the weekly Saptahik Aparadh Daman was found dead on Monday, March 2 behind the Uttara (west) Police Station in Dhaka. Police claimed that the journalist had died after “falling down from the roof” of the police station building on the previous day. Sagar’s wife, however, argued that her husband had been tortured and killed. She told bdnews24.com that there were marks of torture on her husband’s body and that his camera and mobile phone were found at the police station. She also added that on Monday morning the journalist had been called at the Uttara (west) Police Station to settle a case with Uttara Trust College Principal Bashir Uddin. Sagar had recently written a story on the principal.
