Octavio Rojas Hernández, Mexico

Journalist Octavio Rojas Hernández was killed in Mexico on Aug. 13, 2014. The Oaxaca attorney general’s office said in a statement that Rojas was lured from his home at around 5:30 p.m. by an individual who said he wanted to purchase a vehicle from Rojas.

According to witnesses, the individual shot Hernández four times. Although the journalist worked as the communications director for the local municipality of San José Cosolapa, Oaxaca state, Rojas had worked for two months as a reporter for the daily El Buen Tono in Córdoba, Veracruz state, considered one of the most violent states in Mexico.
