Mario Roberto Salazar Barahona, journalist and the director of radio Estéreo Azúcar, was shot in his car on March 17, 2016 in the city of Asunción Mita in southern Guatemala by two men on a motorcycle. Salazar was returning to the city after carrying out errands at Radio Estéreo Solar. He was shot as he was waiting for change for a coconut he had stopped to buy on the side of the highway. The motive for the killing remains unclear.
