Jamal Farah Adan, Somalia

Jamal Farah Adan, a freelance journalist, was killed by gunmen on March 1 in Galkayo, in the central Somalia region of Mudug. According to the Somali Journalist Syndicate, Adan’s  recent Facebook posts covered various subjects including the ongoing electoral stalemate in the country as well as the dispute between Federal Member States and the Somali Federal Government.

On February 15, 2022, a military court in Somalia’s federal state of Puntland ruled that two of the alleged killers would receive the death sentence for the crime. Two other men, who found to have played a role in the murder of Adan, will serve jail terms of 25 years and 15 years.
