On May 1, 2022, Francisca Sandoval was shot while covering protests in Santiago. She was treated in critical condition and passed away due to her injuries on May 12. One suspect was detained by the police, reports say. The motive behind the killing is not clear.

Sandoval worked for media outlet Señal 3.
