Elvis Ordaniza, Philippines – Targeted Due to Work

Elvis Ordaniza, 49, of the local DXWO radio station in Mindanao, was killed on Feb. 16, 2016 when two unidentified gunmen burst into his home Pitogo town in Zamboanga del Sur and shot him dead. Ordaniza, a former communist guerrilla who surrendered and went to work in the media industry, had been reporting on illegal drugs and gambling. Police initially discounted a link to Ordaniza’s work, but colleagues said the killing was related. The true motive for the killing remains unclear.
