On 21 June 2023, the Ukrainian fact-checking page Po Toy Bik Novyn (“On the Other Side of News”) said a new fake page had been created imitating that of the Kyiv-based media outlet RBC Ukraine. As in a previous case in February, the article mentioned Ukraine’s commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhniy, and claimed that Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Southeast of the country was failing due to decisions by president Volodymyr Zelensky.

Claiming to be written by Dmytro Braslavskiy, a journalist at RBC Ukraine, the article quoted a fake Facebook post by Zaluzhniy, “trying to impose the opinion on Ukrainian readers that ‘everything is lost’, the counteroffensive failed, Zelenskyi betrayed everyone, there will be no more weapons [delivered], and other false information,” Po Toy Bik Novyn wrote, claiming Russian hackers were responsible for the publication.

The article was published on a website with the domain name rbc.media, while RBC Ukraine’s actual page is rbc.ua, the fact-checking project added. Contacted by Po Toy Bik Novyn, Braslavskiy confirmed that he was not the author of the article, adding that he was “surprised” that hackers had again used his name to publish a fake RBC Ukraine article.
