Local Mexican politician in Tamaulipas state threatens journalist for reporting on party during COVID-19 spike

Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villareal, a local official in Tamaulipas state for MORENA, the party of Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, placed a threatening and intimidating phone call to journalist Carlos Alberto Figueroa Calderón, a correspondent in Nuevo Laredo for the newspaper La Jornada. Figueroa had reported for La Jornada on a party organized by Canturosas to award “influencers” despite a spike in COVID-19 cases. Photos of the party had gone viral and caused public indignation.
