On 12 October 2024, the editorial office of newspaper Holos Hulaipillya, currently based in the regional capital Zaporizhia, was damaged as a result of a Russian missile attack. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of the publication, Tetyana Velyka, on her Facebook page. Velyka later clarified some of the information she published on her Facebook page to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), a Ukrainian press freedom group.
“Another night-time attack on Zaporizhia with KABs [controlled aviation bombs] did not pass without a trace for the rented office of newspaper Holos Hulyaipillya. The enemy badly damaged the premises where our media is located,” Velyka wrote on Facebook.
Several computers, which the outlet had earlier managed to evacuate from combat zones, were also damaged. According to Velyka, this is the second time that an office used by the outlet is damaged in Russian shelling, with a previous incident dating back to March 2022.
According to IMI, who spoke to Velyka, the new editorial office was now being renovated after the Russian strike.
“We rented an office in Zaporizhia. At the moment, specialists are working there and installing windows and a ceiling, that is, they are putting everything in order,” she said.
According to Velyka, two computers were damaged during the attack, and the editorial office currently required financial assistance to purchase new computers.
