Ecuador journalist gets 10-day prison setence for criticism of governor’s COVID-19 response

A court sentenced Juan Sarmiento to 10 days imprisonment for criticizing the governor of Napos state. Sarmiento was also forced to issue a public apology to the politician for airing a segment on his programme Tendencia Digital criticizing the governor’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in cases. The president of Ecuador asked the governor to step down on 24 November.
