Zamira Esther Bautista Luna, a freelance journalist covering the social section in newspapers El Mercurio and La Verdad de Ciudad Victoria, was shot by a group of armed men while in her car outside of her home in Ciudad Victoria in Tamaulipas on June 20, 2016. Although police found a poster with threats signed by a “criminal group in Ciudad Victoria”, the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
