Assailants gunned down Naveen Gupta, a journalist with national Hindi daily Hindustan, in the early evening of Nov. 30, 2017 outside of a shop in the city of Kanpur in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Three unknown individuals reportedly opened fire on Gupta when he exited the shop and then fled on a motorcycle. Gupta was rushed to a hospital, but died en route. The motive for the crime was not initially apparent.
