Mohammad Yaqub Sharafat, a journalist for the state-owned Afghanistan National Radio Television (RTA) and a freelance reporter, was shot in the head and neck by unidentified gunmen while returning home from work in Qalat City in Zabul province. Local residents found Sharafat and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Oct. 16, 2016. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
