EXECUTIVE BOARD

The IPI Executive Board is elected by the General Assembly with regard to geographic, gender and media diversity. The Board oversees IPI’s finances and guides the Secretariat in implementing the organisation’s overall strategy in defence of media freedom. Members serve three-year terms, extendable for a second term. The Board elects a Chairperson for a two-year term, extendable for one additional year. IPI’s Constitution sets forth the Board’s responsibilities and election procedures in further detail.

Márton Gergely

Hungary
Márton Gergely is the editor-in-chief of Hungary’s largest current affairs weekly, HVG, a position he has held since 2021. In the same year, he was elected to the executive board of the International Press Institute (IPI). He studied History and Journalism in Budapest and Hamburg. Gergely contributed to the Hungarian weekly Magyar Narancs and, after an internship at taz, die tageszeitung, frequently reported from Hungary for the Berlin-based daily. He joined the Népszabadság newsroom in 2003 and was appointed deputy editor-in-chief in 2014, a position he held until the paper’s production ceased due to a politically motivated hostile takeover in October.
