Two journalists suffered fatal injuries in a June 19, 2017 landmine explosion in Mosul, Iraq. French video journalist Stephan Villeneuve, who was filming a piece on Iraqi forces’ efforts to take the city from Islamic State group militants for French news program Envoye Special on channel France 2 with Swiss journalist Veronique Robert, was wounded and died later that day. Robert, who was evacuated to France, died of her injuries on June 24. Their interpreter, Kurdish Iraqi Bakhtiyar al-Haddad, was also killed in the explosion.
