Leading oil industry analyst Robert J. Weiner will join a strong line-up of speakers and panellists at the international IPI conference on Oil, Gas & Media in Baku, Azerbaijan, to be held from September 17-19. Weiner will take part in a panel session titled, “Risk and Reward – Who is underwriting today’s increasingly complicated and costly ventures?” on Tuesday, September 18.

Weiner is a professor of international business, public policy & public administration, and international affairs, at the George Washington University in Washington DC., and has previously taught at Harvard University, Brandeis University and the Complutense University of Madrid.

His research interests and projects focus on energy security, including resource nationalism and political risk; oil and corruption; petroleum fiscal vulnerability; dynamics of energy crises; foreign investment in the Russian petroleum industry; oil speculation and market turbulence; and privatization and the behaviour of state-owned enterprises in the world petroleum market.

Weiner has advised U.S. government agencies, international institutions, financial services providers, and oil companies, including Amoco, Mobil, Texaco, the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), the U.S. Department of Energy and the World Bank.

He is the author or co-author of four books: “Energy and Environment”; “Oil Shock”; “Oil and Money”; and “Oil Markets in a Turbulent Era”.
