Melinda Magsino was killed on Monday, April 13, 2015. A former correspondent for the Philippine Inquirer, Magsino was shot as she walked near her apartment in Batangas City on the island of Luzon. Magsino had been well-known for her investigative journalism and had previously received death threats. Family members told police that Magsino had been killed for her work and that she had been working on several stories at the time of her death.
