Media entrepreneurs, researchers, funders and policymakers came together last week at the Journalism Entrepreneurship Summit at the Google Campus in London. The Feb. 27 event was organised by the MADE project creator and UCLan professor François Nel, with the support of Talk About Local and the International Press Institute (IPI).

The one-day, digital media ride started with an exchange of stakeholders’ perspectives on lessons learned with respect to digital media entrepreneurship and the main challenges looking forward. The discussion soon turned to the lack of an economic model to monetise and sustain new projects. However, other concerns, such the need to create new legal frameworks to provide safety to the entrepreneurs behind new forms of journalism, were also laid on the table.

To shed further light on these matters, IPI interviewed a variety of experts who participated in the sessions, such Douglas White from Carnegie UK Trust, OnTheWight founder Simon Perry, Reframed founder Jo York, and Policy expert and Talk About Local co-founder William Perrin.
