#IPIWoCo: When journalists seek refuge

Panel discussion from the 2017 IPI World Congress in Hamburg

#IPIWoCo: When journalists seek refuge

Hundreds of journalists have been forced into exile, escaping war, destruction, attacks and death threats; many of them choose Germany as their second home. Exiled from their homelands they face numerous obstacles (bureaucracy, language barriers, lack of social capital, cultural differences, unemployment, etc.) How can exiled journalists contribute to the news and serve the public good? Couldn’t they contribute better insights into certain topics, especially with reporting on stories from their countries of origin?

Watch the discussion from the panel session “When Journalists Seek Refuge (Focus on Syria)” held on May 19, 2017 at the IPI World Congress in Hamburg.
