Investigative Journalism for Europe (IJ4EU)
Support without strings
IJ4EU’s mission is to strengthen the watchdog role of investigative journalism in Europe. Its focus on supporting collaborative projects across countries reflects the increasingly transnational nature of public-interest reporting — and the need for journalists to follow stories wherever they lead.
IJ4EU channels European Commission funding, complemented by philanthropic co-financing, through a consortium of neutral intermediary organisations led by IPI, ensuring support without strings attached and a clear separation between funders and editorial decision-making. This governance model has become a gold standard for safeguarding independence in donor-funded journalism.
But IJ4EU offers more than funding. By combining grants with legal assistance, training, mentoring and networking opportunities, the programme enables investigative teams to work at a scale and depth that today’s media market rarely sustains — strengthening collaboration, resilience, and impact across Europe.
One thing less to investigate!
