The International Press Institute (IPI) will hold its 2019 World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland from June 4 to 5, 2019, in partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).  IPI’s annual event will focus on successful strategies to strengthen the relationship between news organisations and the audiences in defence of quality journalism as a public good. We will examine best practices for engaging with readers, viewers and other stakeholders to ensure that the media’s role in guarding the public interest remains undiminished.

Register for the Congress now at www.ipiworldcongress.com

This year’s programme includes sessions on:

* How can the press and the public defend independent journalism together?
* Connecting with our communities and audiences to gain valuable feedback and build trust
* How should journalism react to the rise of populism?
* Newsroom guidelines for dealing with online harassment of journalists
* The disappearance of independent media in Central and Eastern Europe
* Recent EU elections: Did defences against hacks and fake news work?
* Covering FIFA – between sport and business

and more!

All registration fees for the IPI World Congress will go to the IPI Press Freedom Fund. This fund allows us to react swiftly to media freedom violations around the world. Our recent work includes our campaigns to free jailed journalists in Turkey and Egypt and press freedom missions to Slovakia, Malta and Turkey.
