The International Press Institute (IPI) will participate in this year’s “Difference Day“, an annual event in Brussels to mark World Press Freedom Day on May 3. The event, organized by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Université Libre de Bruxelles and Erasmushogeschool Brussel, BOZAR, & Evens Foundation, along with other partners, aims to celebrate freedom of the press and freedom of expression by honouring people and organizations that make a difference in protecting and promoting these values.
IPI Deputy Director Scott Griffen will moderate the session “Silencing Critical Voices – Killing Me Softly“, which will analyze the variety of ways that public authorities and private actors put pressure on the media and silence critical voices in Europe.
He will be joined by the following panellists:
Françoise Tulkens, former vice-president of the European Court of Human Rights
András Dési, former senior editor of the now-closed Hungarian newspaper Népszabadság
Mary Fitzgerald, head of the global, non-profit media outlet openDemocracy
Edouard Perrin, French investigative reporter who led the LuxLeaks investigation
