“What is amazing is that I am forced to feel brave to do my job here, at my house,” Spanish journalist Mayte Carrasco, who has covered major conflicts worldwide over the past eight years, says.

She made that statement within hours after she received more than 100 insulting and threatening messages through Twitter following the primetime, Jan. 20 broadcast of a documentary about Islamic fundamentalism that included comments by Carrasco.

“Lo que es increíble es que me parezca valiente hacer mi trabajo aquí, en mi casa”, asegura Mayte Carrasco, una periodista española que ha cubierto los principales conflictos bélicos en todo el mundo durante los últimos ocho años.

Estas declaraciones nacieron pocas horas después de haber recibido más de cien mensajes con insultos y amenazas a través de la red social de Twitter tras su intervención en un documental sobre el fundamentalismo islámico, emitido el pasado martes, 20 de enero.

IPI today expressed solidarity with four Dominican Republic journalists recently threatened with death at a public event and it called on authorities to investigate the case and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
