On 7 July 2023, the Russian streaming platform Yandex Music deleted Kavachay (“Coffeetea”), a podcast on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, following a demand to do so by Russia’s internet censor Roskomnadzor. Kavachay, a podcast produced by the Russian independent online media outlet Holod, was banned by authorities on grounds of violating laws banning the “discreditation” of the Russian army, Russian online media MediaZona reported.

In March, Roskomnadzor demanded that Yandex Music remove Deadline, a podcast by Russia’s largest independent media outlet, Meduza, in which journalists discussed the effects of the war on the work of Russian media. Yandex Music complied with the demand.
