The editors of Ukrainian news outlet Volyn Online received an online threat from an unknown source demanding they stop spreading “false information” about Russia. The threat email claimed that the current Ukrainian regime is a “banderite junta” and suggested that the news outlet is ordered to write untrue articles about Russia. It threatened that its journalists would face punishment for their writing. Volyn Online said it was not the first threat they received for reporting on Russia. In June, the media said it had already received nineteen emails with threats. On June 10, a user named Valery Naumov emailed Volyn Online, claiming that Russian authorities had opened a criminal case against the media’s journalists for “extremism”. The message also said that they would be “passionately” interrogated and imprisoned “when the Russian army occupies the localities, in which [they] live”.
