Arrest/detention/charges: Arrest/detention under fake news laws
Police in the southern Indian state of Telangana booked three journalists in two separate cases of spreading ‘fake news’. In one case, the two journalists had published a story stating that a person who distributed food to poor families had tested positive for Covid-19, which the police said was not correct. In the second case, another journalist reported that senior district officials were being tested for COVID-19, which has also been denied by the administration.
