On 17 March 2026, the newsroom of Pivdenna Zorya, a newspaper operating in Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, was damaged in a Russian drone attack on the administrative building where the outlet works, according to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).
Editor-in-chief Inna Shvydka said the building was heavily damaged by multiple kamikaze drones. The attack damaged the façade, blew out windows and caused a fire. Several people – in all evidence not from the editorial team – were injured in the attack, but no deaths were reported.
The newsroom itself had one window blown out, while fragments from the blast wave were scattered across the room. Shvydka said the team covered the broken window with a board and plastic film, swept up the fragments and continued working. The outlet’s equipment was not damaged, as the team had moved it away from the window following previous attacks on the newsroom.
Shvydka said Nikopol remains under intensive Russian shelling, including artillery and drone attacks from the opposite bank of the Dnipro River, where Russian forces are stationed.
