Russian journalist fined 80,000 rubles for “discrediting” the Russian army

Journalist and activist Oksana Asaulenko was fined 80,000 rubles over two different charges of discrediting the Russian military forces in the city of Perm. She was fined 30,000 rubles for the first case and 50,000 rubles for the second case under Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. A third administrative protocol was drawn up. The fines were based on posts and comments by Asaulenko on social media about Russian military forces She said she intends to appeal the verdict and pointed out to Idea.realii that there were mistakes in the protocols made by the police about her offences. The fines were administered under a newly strengthened Russian law which criminalises the discrediting of the armed forces, which was passed shortly after the invasion of Ukraine.
