On 9 August 2022, police in Moscow detained Russian journalist Aleksandra Bayazitova. She is known for her freelance collaboration with the pro-Kremlin Life.ru tabloid and for being the author of the Adskiye Babki Telegram channel.

Bayazitova was later allegedly accused of extorsion and placed under arrest. On 26 December, a court in Moscow prolonged her detention until early February. According to the journalist, the case against her was initiated for an article she wrote on alleged corruption cases in Promsvyazbank, one of Russia’s largest banks, which is currently under European and US sanctions for its role in Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
