On 28 September 2022, Russia banned entry to Bild journalist Peter Tiede. The journalist said he was refused entry in Moscow’s Vnukovo airport, and that he was banned from entering the country until March 2024. Tiede said that the official reason for the decision was an unpaid fine, however privately border guards reportedly told him that Russian security services had classified him as a threat to national security.

In June, Russia forbade entry to 49 British journalists, claiming they published fake news on the war in Ukraine.
