Bob Rumanzi of Freedom Radio was assaulted by a group of police officers who arrived at the Freedom Radio station looking for a fellow journalist under investigation for his COVID-19 reporting. The police also accused him of giving space to an opposition politician. Later, in late May, Rumanzi said officers surrounded his home and that he took refuge in the radio station, saying that the police possibly sought to detain him for his coverage of “deteriorating conditions” for journalists.
