On February 6, the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana, closed down Salt FM, a private media outlet in the Asante Akyem North District, Ashanti Region. According to the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Salt FM is owned by Kwame Frimpong, who intends to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary elections, challenging Andy Appiah-Kubi of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The shutdown by the NCA is seen by some as politically motivated, a claim both the NCA and the incumbent MP have rejected. Following the closure by the NCA, Salt FM has shifted its broadcast operations online.
