Journalist comes under Russian fire in train en route to Sumy

On 8 March 2026, Ukrainian journalist Mykola Tymchenko came under fire from a Russian drone while travelling from Kyiv to Sumy for reporting work, according to media reports.

The incident occurred in the morning, when a Russian drone struck a passenger train travelling on the Kyiv–Sumy route carrying around 200 people. Tymchenko was on board the train at the time, en route to Sumy. The strike caused damage to the train but did not result in injuries among passengers or railway staff.

According to Ukrainian officials, the attack targeted civilian railway infrastructure. Local authorities reported that the train’s windows were damaged and parts of the carriage were affected by the blast, while emergency services were deployed to the scene.
