Multiple journalists were arrested while covering anti-war protests across Russia, according to the Russian Journalists Trade Union. Daria Kucherenko, correspondent for Kommersant, as well as Olga Komleva, correspondent for RusNews, were arrested in Ufa. In St. Petersburg, police arrested Andrey Okun from ZakS.ru and Peter Ivanov and Victoria Arefieva of Sota. In Moscow, police arrested Pavel Nikulin, editor of Moloko Plus, Artem Drachev, a photojournalist from Moloko Plus and Maxim Kondratyev, author of Avtozak LIVE channel. Following protests, police also raided the home in Kazan of Sota journalist Nailya Mullayeva.
UPDATE: On 18 March, police in Novokubansk detained journalist and blogger Aleksandr Nozdrinov, allegedly due to a video he published online related to a protest on live national TV by journalist Marina Ovsyannikova. He was later charged with spreading “fake news” on the Russian army. As of December 2022, he remained under arrest and was accused by prosecutors in a new case of alleged “fake news”, in which he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
