Journalist Isabella Evloeva, editor of Fortanga media, was accused of spreading “fake” information over a story she wrote about the Russian army in Ukraine. According to her publication, criminal proceedings were opened by the Center for Combating Extremism of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Ingushetia. The police, together with officers from the FSB, investigated the journalist’s posts on her Telegram channel. Authorities said the publications fell under the new article of the criminal code on “knowingly false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces.” The article she wrote involved criticism of an event involving teenagers in Magas which had been carried out support of the invasion Ukraine. Evloeva’s media is based in the Caucasian Republic of Ingushetia. According to Kavkaz.realii, Evloeva is not currently based within Russia. She said that she learned about the case from colleagues and friends.

UPDATE: Evloeva was again charged with distributing false information about the Russian armed forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The charges were reportedly brought over a report prepared by the employees of the Federal Security Service. The document revealed that a post made on Fortanga’s Telegram channel on June 26 allegedly contained so-called false information about the Russian army’s losses in Ukraine, as well as its targeting of a shopping mall in Kremenchuk, Ukraine. The first charge based on Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code was filed against Evloeva in March, while the second was filed in April. Her parents have also been harassed by law enforcement agents as a result of her activities.
