On 27 February 2022, police in the Russian city of Omsk detained journalist Denis Kabakov, who had come to report from an authorized protest initially planned as a commemoration event on the anniversary of the killing of Russian opposition figure Boris Nemtsov. Due to recent events, the demonstration focused on denouncing Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. It was unclear what media Kabakov was planning to report for.
