On November 24, the internet was disrupted in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, and its outskirts. Major social media and messaging platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Signal, and TikTok were inaccessible. Internet users resorted to VPNs to access information online. While the government did not publish information about the shutdown, it is widely believed that the authorities were behind the disruption. The internet disruption was condemned by local press defense and internet groups as a grave violation of the right of access to information. It was the second internet disruption in Guinea this year after a similar incident in May.
