French journalist Maxime Brandstaetter from broadcaster BFMTV was injured after the vehicle he was travelling in was hit by shrapnel from an exploding Russian shell. Hhe was travelling with colleague Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, who was killed after fragments from the shell pierced the armour of a vehicle. They were accompanied by Ukrainian producer Oksana Leuta. Brandstaetter and the team had been covering evacuation efforts and had been travelling on the road to the eastern Ukrainian city of Lysychansk, in the Luhansk region. Brandstaetter suffered slight injuries and a concussion. He was given emergency treatment, according to a statement by BFMTV. Leuta also suffered a concussion. Brandstaetter said they had been riding in the car with police officers but that there had been no military forces or civilians in the vehicle when they were shelled.
