Sergio Len, director of the radio broadcastser La Costeñisima, was the target of a slander complaint sent to the Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution (Dirac). The complaint came after the radio station broadcast a declaration by the opposition mayor of Cruz de Río Grande, in which the mayor expressed concern that two individuals may have recently died from COVID-19 given that the Nicaraguan Health Ministry ordered their immediate funeral. PEN Nicaragua said the complaint was part of a new “campaign” against León, who has been repeatedly targeted by the Nicaraguan authorities.
