On 23 July 2026, the office of the local newspaper Bilopilshchyna in Bilopillia, Sumy region, was damaged in a Russian strike on the town, according to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI). The attack reportedly damaged the roof and ceiling of the newsroom, as well as furniture, computer equipment and other property.

Natalia Kalinichenko, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, said that most of the editorial team had relocated from Bilopillia to the regional capital, Sumy, in 2025 because of the deteriorating security situation near the Russian border. At the time of the strike, only one employee had remained in Bilopillia to receive announcements and advertisements from local residents and to conduct on-the-ground reporting. According to Kalinichenko, the employee left the office shortly before the attack and was unharmed.
