On April 25, 2024, Burkina Faso’s media regulatory body, the Conseil Supérieur de la Communication (CSC), imposed a two-week ban on BBC and VOA broadcasts within the country. This action came after reports surfaced from various media sources accusing the army of extrajudicial killings of civilians, with at least 223 individuals, including at least 56 children reported to have been killed from two villages on February 25. Similar acts of censorship by the military-led regime targeting both foreign and local media outlets have been noted on several other occasions.
