Grant Description

The International Press Institute (IPI) is offering support for Ukrainian journalists to carry out short-term visits in Europe focused on:

  • carrying out short-term exchange visits to European media with the purpose of developing newsroom knowledge relevant to the long-term sustainability of Ukrainian media outlets and increasing links between Ukrainian media and European and international media outlets and media networks.
  • attending professional conferences, summits, summer schools, and workshops.
  • supporting research trips, study trips, or creative retreats aimed at the development of journalistic content (including long-form and analytical pieces, audio-visual content, book proposals, etc.)
  • supporting emergency relocation

Journalists wishing to carry out short-term newsroom exchange visits may arrange their own exchanges. Additionally, IPI offers to help match applicants with members of IPI’s network in Europe, including our Central Europe Independent Media Network, based on the applicant’s needs.

Terms and Conditions

Average grant amounts are expected to be in the range of 500 – 2500 USD, however, amounts requested outside this range will be considered on an individual basis.

Grant recipients would need to provide IPI with a short narrative and financial report at their project’s end and supporting documentation, such as travel tickets, accommodation, and fee payments.

In general, the grant will be provided in the form of a direct payment to the applicant. However, limited logistical support is available for successful applicants who cannot arrange their travel and accommodation.

Eligibility

Ukrainian journalists, including freelancers, are invited to submit applications. Applicants must have the right to leave the country if based in Ukraine. Displaced journalists are eligible to apply.

Timeline

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting immediately after the publication of this call and until funds are exhausted. The application process is intended to be quick and unbureaucratic. Applications will be reviewed as quickly as possible and applicants should receive an answer within a few days.

Activities can be carried out until December 1, 2023. The financial and narrative reports must be submitted by this date.

We encourage those interested to apply as soon as possible.

Assessment criteria

IPI will assess the applications based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance for the thematic focus of this program.
  • Feasibility of the proposed activities
  • Proposed outcomes of the travel

Grant decisions are made solely by IPI. Donor organizations are not permitted to influence the selection of grantees.

Грант на підтримку мобільності українських журналістів

Опис гранту: Міжнародний інститут преси (IPI) пропонує допомогу українським журналістам у здійсненні короткотермінових поїздок до країн Європи з метою:

  • Здійснення короткострокових обмінних візитів до європейських медіа з метою розвитку фахових знань, які підкріплять довгострокову стабільність українських медіа та посилять зв’язки між українськими медіа та європейськими, міжнародними медіа, а також з медіамережами;
  • Відвідування професійних конференцій, самітів, літніх шкіл, семінарів;
  • Підтримка дослідницьких поїздок, навчальних поїздок або творчих відпусток, спрямованих на розробку журналістського контенту (включаючи лонгріди та аналітичні статті, аудіовізуальний контент, пропозиції книг, тощо);
  • Підтримка екстреного переселення.

Журналісти, які зацікавлені в короткострокових поїздках до редакцій можуть організувати власні обміни. Додатково, IPI пропонує допомогу заявникам у підборі членів мережі IPI в Європі, включно з нашою Центральноєвропейською мережею незалежних медіа, залежно від потреб заявника.

Правила та умови

Середня сума гранту – від 500 до 2500 доларів США, однак пропозиції поза цим діапазоном також розглядатимуться на індивідуальній основі.

Одержувачі грантів повинні надати IPI короткий предметний та фінансовий звіт наприкінці свого проекту та супровідну документацію, таку як проїзні квитки, рахунки за проживання та оплату інших витрат.

Загалом грант надаватиметься у формі прямої виплати заявнику. Однак базова матеріально-технічна підтримка також доступна для успішних заявників, які не можуть самостійно організувати свою поїздку та проживання.

Вимоги

Подавати заявки можуть українські журналісти, в тому числі фрілансери. Кандидати повинні мати право на виїзд за кордон, якщо проживають в Україні. Журналісти-переселенці мають право подати заявку.

Терміни

Заявки розглядатимуться одразу після публікації інформації про цей грант та до вичерпання коштів. Процес подання заявки має бути швидким та не бюрократичним. Заявки будуть розглянуті якомога швидше, тож заявники мають отримати відповідь протягом кількох днів.

Заходи в рамках гранту можна проводити до 1 грудня 2023 року. До цієї дати також необхідно подати фінансовий та описовий звіти.

Закликаємо зацікавлених журналістів подати заявку якнайшвидше.

Критерії оцінювання

IPI оцінюватиме заявки за наступними критеріями:

  • Відповідність тематиці програми;
  • Можливість виконання запропонованих заходів;
  • Очікувані результати подорожі.

Рішення про гранти приймає виключно IPI. Донорські організації не можуть впливати на вибір переможців грантового конкурсу.
