Igor Kornelyuk, a correspondent with the state-owned Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, and sound engineer Anton Voloshin died on June 17, 2014 after they came under mortar fire while reporting from a village outside of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine. Kornelyuk was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he died. Voloshin was initially reported missing, but his network later said it had confirmed that he died as well. Their cameraman Viktor Denisov said the team was filming the flight of Ukrainian refugees when they came under fire. Russian authorities blamed Ukrainian troops for the death. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he had ordered an investigation into the incident, but another Ukrainian official said that Kornelyuk was killed in a clash that erupted when “terrorists” attacked Ukrainian law enforcement troops.
