Ammar al-Shami died on May 31, 2015 in the Marj al-Sultan village, east of Damascus, when he was caught in a government air strike. Al-Shami, a correspondent for independent regional news website Qasioun News, was reportedly covering clashes between government and opposition forces at the time of his death.
