Freelance Yemeni journalist Almigdad Mojalli was killed on Jan. 17, 2016 in an air strike by Saudi-led coalition warplanes while on assignment for Voice of America in a suburb of the country’s rebel-held capital Sana’a. VOA reported that Mojalli, who also worked for the U.N. news agency, IRIN, and other news sources, had focused his reporting on the human impact of the war and economic crisis in Yemen.
