Mayada Ashraf, a journalist for the independent El-Dostour newspaper, was shot to death while reporting on clashes between security forces and supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi in the Cairo suburb of Ain Shams. Ashraf, 22, was among the four people killed and 10 wounded during the clashes. Ahramonline, the website of the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper, reported that the journalist’s editors and the press syndicate called on the government to promptly investigate the death. It was not immediately clear whether Ashraf was hit with gunfire from the security forces or from demonstrators.
