Fifty-two year old reporter Rubylita Garcia was shot dead by two gunmen in her home in Cavite on April 6. Garcia worked for tabloid newspaper Remate and hosted a talk show on dwAD Radio. According to the Philippine Star, Garcia was a hard-hitting journalist who exposed corruption in the police force, providing small evidence that the attack could have been work-related. The Committee to Protect Journalists stated that Garcia identified a high-ranking police official as the man behind the attack while she was still conscious after the shooting.
