The burned remains of journalist Salvador Adame Pardo were found on June 14, 2017 in front of an alter to Santa Muerte near the city of Nueva Italia, in Michoacán state. Adame was abducted on May 18, 2017 in Nueva Italia by a group of armed men. Authorities indicated that a local criminal boss was a suspect in the kidnapping and murder, but the motive for the killing was not immediately known.
